Niebuhr called the subject of this book "the double wrestle of the church with its Lord and with the cultural society with which it lives in symbiosis." And he described various understandings of Christ "against," "of," and "above" culture, as well as Christ "transforming" culture, and Christ in "paradoxical" relation to it. This 50th anniversary edition of "Christ and Culture", with a foreword by theologian Martin E. Marty, is not easy reading. But it remains among the most gripping articulations of what is arguably the most basic ethical question of the Christian faith: how is Christ relevant to the world in which we live now? Kirsten Matheus is a communications engineer who is currently responsible for establishing Ethernet-based communication in the industry. She also initiated and chaired the OPEN Alliance and helped establish the IEEE 802.3 reduced twisted pair gigabit Ethernet (RTPGE, 1000BASE-T1) working group.

Thomas Königseder is an electronics engineer and Group Manager for Communications Technologies at BMW. He was responsible for launching the first ever serial car with an Ethernet connection.

Kirsten Matheus and her collaborators document the decades-long journey of Ethernet to the car. Moving data rapidly within the infrastructure of the car is a proposition that will save lives and fuel while enabling entirely new driving experiences. Understanding HOW this technology has arrived at the threshold of broad mass market implementation is a critical step for the entire industry. Reading the book we understand the process and the product of that implementation. It isn't often that such keystone developments are explained clearly and completely, but Ms. Matheus' decision to share her insights, experience and knowledge will do much to advance the cause of automotive connectivity and industry transformation.

Automotive Ethernet is next evolutionary phase for in-car data communications and this very first book perfectly addresses this topic. This book is well-written and very well organized. I highly recommend it to the readers who want to get a very good overview of the subject and some critical information in a precise manner. The references are thorough and relevant.
